Sorbo Artefacto is a project by Puerto Rican artist Manuel Mendoza Sánchez, stemming from his experimentation with local clay. The small format of the cup allows him to push the limits of the clays he harvests, each one unique and requiring particular attention and care. By adding imported clay when necessary, the cup enables him to create durable blends that he can later apply to his larger works, such as vases. In his artistic practice, Mendoza Sánchez has undertaken extensive exploration into the theme of recurring rituals, particularly those surrounding tea and coffee, and how these rituals have been sustained locally and shared globally. With Sorbo Artefacto, Mendoza Sánchez aims for his cups to become a part of your ritual, whether it involves coffee, tea, or your preferred beverage.
